A challenging cottage block of land with over 4 m of fall where we had to cut 1m at the back and fill 3m high at the front to have a platform where we could construct the 2 storey custom design home of a total of 32 squares. Retaining structures were required at all 4 boundaries to accommodate the cut and fill areas and that included brick retaining walls and concrete sleepers. Due to the fill, the slab was fully suspended and supported on concrete bored piers. The dwelling was architecturally designed and required a complicated steel structure to support the upper floor with brick veneer walls.
